Guest Teaching at UNE Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

Considering a guest speaker who can bring the realities of chronic illness to life?

You need someone who not only engages your students but also delivers the essential material within the designated time—without derailing your carefully planned semester.

Guest speakers are tricky. But Carrie is not. From Carrie’s own veterinary training, she understands and respects the limited classroom time.

She knows the value of presenting material in an interactive case-based format for more discussion and retention and has almost two decades of lived experience with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). Carrie can start the conversation at any point in her journey.

How do you improve your class content, especially around the chronic invisible conditions that are not clear cut?

Conditions where the diagnosis comes from acquiring a collection of clinical signs, not by running diagnostic tests or imaging.

Carrie wants to help students in any stage of their training obtain the skills to be more comfortable with the uncertainty of patients like her.

Caroline has the ability to present complex information in a digestible way. Her willingness to share her journey with our Doctor of Physical Therapy students gave them the rare opportunity to see this complex condition (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) from a patient’s perspective.”
